How does a VA & INV Flexible Impeller Pump work?

This pump operates by the rotation of the internal shaft, which causes the flexible impeller to bend against the casing, pushing fluids and solids out of the discharge port.

What is the difference between a Centrifugal and a Flexible Impeller Pump?

A Centrifugal Pump is a Rotodynamic pump that passes energy from the motor to the liquid, which forces the fluid out of the discharge port. The Impeller Pump is a Positive Displacement Pump that traps small amounts of liquid and forces it from the suction to the discharge port.

How does this differ from other products on the Tapflo website?

The VA and INV ranges are designed for applications requiring variable speed control. The VA series uses a mechanical variator to change gearbox output speed, suitable where precise flow control is not critical. The INV series uses an inverter panel for infinitely variable motor speed, remote control, dry-run protection, and the widest and most accurate flow adjustment.

What applications are suited to this pump?

The VA & INV ranges are used across industries including food processing, dairy, brewery, distillery, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, wastewater treatment, oils, sludges, slurries, paints, and glues.

Are these pumps self-priming?

Yes, they can self-prime up to 6m suction lift from dry.

Can this pump run dry?

No. Running dry can damage the impeller or seal. The INV series includes built-in dry-run protection, but the VA series does not. For VA pumps, protective measures should be considered if dry-running is a risk.

Is this pump suitable for abrasive or hazardous chemicals?

Suitability depends on the chemical and pump construction. With a choice of impeller materials (e.g., EPDM, NBR) and stainless steel pump heads (304 or 316), many fluids can be handled safely. However, for abrasive or hazardous chemicals, compatibility should always be confirmed case by case to ensure safe and reliable operation.

VA & INV Flexible Impeller Pumps

Tapflo UK is proud to be a partner of Liverani, a leading Italian manufacturer, supplying us with highest-quality Flexible Impeller Pumps and Liquid Ring Pumps.

Our VA & INV Flexible Impeller Pumps are self-priming pumps that are ideal for transfer, filling, dosing and filtration applications that require variable speed control. These pumps can handle not only clean, light fluids, but also viscous, solid-laden slurries, with solids passage capabilities up to 25mm. The VA Series offers the capability to adjust its speed by its integral mechanical variator which changes the mechanical output speed of the gearbox. With the INV Series, you'll achieve the widest and most accurate flow control as you can infinitely vary the speed of the motor between its minimum and maximum speed points using the pre-wired and calibrated inverter panel.

Typical applications for our VA & INV Flexible Impeller Pumps:

  • Food Processing
  • Dairy
  • Brewery
  • Distillery
  • Chemical
  • Wastewater
  • Oil
  • Sludges and Slurries
  • Paints and Glues
Overview

Our VA Series is characterised by its ability to adjust its speed by its integral mechanical variator, which changes the mechanical output speed of the gearbox. Flow control isn’t as accurate as the INV series. However, it provides a decent flow range for applications where precise flow control isn’t necessarily required. Speed adjustment must be done whilst the pump is at a standstill, not during operation.

All VA series units are 3 phases as standard.

Our INV Series provides the widest and most accurate flow control as you can infinitely vary the speed of the motor between its min and max speed points by using the pre-wired and calibrated inverter panel. As with the RID series, the INV MAXI DOUBLE 2Q doubles the flow of the INV MAXI 80 & INV MAXI DOUBLE 2H doubles the head.

As standard, the INV Series is supplied trolley mounted and with a CE Control Panel with an integral inverter, remote control on a 15 m cable with on/off/reverse & Speed Adjustment, dry-run protection & supplementary 24V NC Contactor for wiring to any additional fluid accessories such as Flow Meters, Pressure Switches or Transducers etc.

The feeding supply for the INV series can be either 230V single phase (up to 2.2 kW) or 230-400V three-phase.

Features & Benefits
  • Variable Speed Adjustment: The VA series features an integral mechanical variator that allows for adjustable speed while the INV series features a pre-wired and calibrated inverter panel for precise speed control
  • Flow Control: VA series is suitable for applications that don’t require exact flow control, while the INV series offers the widest and most accurate flow control range
  • Operational Safety: Speed adjustment is possible only at a standstill with the VA series, while dry-run protection is included in the INV series
  • Configuration: Standard 3-phase configuration for the VA series and single or 3-phase supply options for the INV series
  • Enhanced Performance: Increased flow and pressure options available on all MAXI models
  • Additional Features: Optional manual or spring-loaded bypasses on both series, while the INV series can be trolley-mounted with CE Control Panel and remote control included
