ATEX refers to EU product directives that state the minimum requirements for protection from explosive atmospheres and environments. ATEX certification means that a pump is safe to use with hazardous products and in explosive environments.
ATEX Zone 0: There is a presence of flammable materials during normal operation for extended periods.
ATEX Zone 1: Areas where an explosive atmosphere may be present (a mixture of air and flammable substances), requiring specific safety measures and ATEX equipment.
ATEX Zone 2: An explosive atmosphere may not normally occur during normal operation, but could occur occasionally/for a limited time.
If a pump is ATEX-classified or rated, the product description will state that they are. Also look out for the black and yellow Ex logo, which symbolises ATEX certification.
