What is a twin screw pump and how does it differ from a progressive cavity pump?

A twin screw pump is a rotary positive displacement pump. Two intermeshing screws, driven by timing gears so that they rotate in opposite directions, carry the product axially through the casing in a smooth, low-pulsation flow.

A progressive cavity pump uses a single rotor turning inside an elastomer stator. Because the HTS Series rotors do not touch the pump casing, the pump can run at high speeds and can run dry with flushed seals. It also pumps both the product and the CIP solution with the same pump.

The HTS Series is the hygienic twin screw pump Tapflo UK offers, and we also supply Nova Rotors progressive cavity pumps. Our engineers can advise which pump type best suits your process.

Can the HTS Series twin screw pump run dry?

Yes. Because the rotors run clear of the pump casing, dry running is possible when the pump is fitted with flushed mechanical seals. Speak to our team about the seal configuration and flushing arrangement for your application.

Can the HTS Series be cleaned in place (CIP)?

Yes. The HTS Series is designed for CIP and process duty with a single pump. Its hygienic design has no dead zones, while FDA-approved elastomers and a wetted surface finish of Ra < 0.8 µm support thorough cleaning. The 3-A version adds full drainage and certified CIP/SIP compatible geometries, and is supplied with CIP/SIP documentation and official 3-A marking.

What viscosities and flow rates can the HTS Series handle?

The HTS Series handles products from thin liquids up to 1,000,000 cP, including liquids containing suspended or abrasive solids. Flow rates range up to 200 m³/h (at 0 bar, largest rotor pitch) with pressures up to 25 bar. Four sizes are available: HTS 2 (up to 27 m³/h), HTS 4 (up to 65 m³/h), HTS 6 (up to 100 m³/h) and HTS 8 (up to 200 m³/h). Each size is offered in four models with different rotor pitches. Operating temperatures range from -40 °C up to 130 °C for product and 150 °C for cleaning (higher on request).

What connections and certifications are available?

Connections include DIN 11851, DIN 11864, Clamp ISO 2852, ASME-3A and DIN 32676, RJT, SMS 1145 and Macon, with other standards on request. The pump is CE marked and has an EHEDG compliant design, and a 3-A Sanitary Standard certified version is available. All versions use FDA-approved elastomers; the 3-A version adds full FDA / EC 1935/2004 material traceability and official 3-A marking.

Is the HTS Series suitable for 3-A applications?

Yes. The HTS Series is a hygienic twin screw pump with an EHEDG compliant design. It is also available as a 3-A Sanitary Standard certified version for hygienic twin screw pump duties.

The 3-A version uses FDA / 3-A compliant materials for all product-contact parts, with 3-A compliant flushed or double mechanical seals and front-facing gaskets without stagnation zones. The pump body has full drainage capability, no dead zones and certified CIP/SIP compatible geometries. It is fitted with DIN 11864 hygienic fittings, a stainless steel motor or protective stainless steel motor cover, and a hygienic baseplate with 3-A adjustable feet.

Each 3-A pump is supplied with full material traceability (FDA / EC 1935/2004), manuals and CIP/SIP documentation compliant with 3-A requirements, and official 3-A marking on the pump body.
