How does a Gearbox Drive Flexible Impeller Pump work?

The Gearbox Drive Flexible Impeller Pump works by rotating a flexible impeller inside the casing. The impeller bends as it turns, trapping liquid and moving it smoothly from the suction side to the discharge side, allowing pulsation-free, reversible flow.

What is the difference between a Centrifugal and a Flexible Impeller Pump?

A Centrifugal Pump is a Rotodynamic pump that passes energy from the motor to the liquid, which forces the fluid out of the discharge port. Whereas the Impeller Pump is a Positive Displacement Pump that traps small amounts of liquid and forces it from the suction to the discharge port.

How does this differ from other products on the Tapflo website?

This series is close-coupled to a geared motor, making it ideal for medium to high-viscosity and shear-sensitive fluids. It also allows rotation of the pump head into different porting positions and offers higher performance with RID MAXI DOUBLE models, which can double flow or head.

Can this pump run dry?

No. Running dry can damage the impeller and mechanical seal. However, wired dry-run protection is available as an option to safeguard against this.

Is this pump suitable for abrasive or hazardous chemicals?

Suitability depends on the application and material selection. With impellers available in NR, NBR, Neoprene, EPDM, and Silicone, and mechanical seals in various materials, RID pumps can handle a wide range of fluids, including some chemical, cosmetic, and wastewater applications. For highly abrasive or aggressive hazardous chemicals, material compatibility must be checked case by case to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Gearbox Drive Flexible Impeller Pump

Tapflo UK is proud to be a partner of Liverani, a leading Italian manufacturer, supplying us with highest-quality Flexible Impeller Pumps and Liquid Ring Pumps.

The RID Gearbox Drive Self-Priming Flexible Impeller Pump, is characterised by its close-coupled design to a geared motor. This pump excels at handling medium to high viscosity, shear-sensitive, and abrasive fluids with viscosities up to 50,000 cPs. Additionally, the pump delivers pulsation-free pumping for shear-sensitive liquids, reversible operation, and can self-prime up to 25mm (model dependant).  The RID Series can be supplied trolley-mounted, with or without baseplates, with or without control panels and wired dry-run protection. All models are 3-phase with Manual or Spring Loaded By-Passes available on request. Furthermore, FDA-approved EPDM and NBR impellers are available for enhanced sanitation.

Typical applications for our Inverter Drive Self-Priming Flexible Impeller Pump:

  • Oenological
  • Brewery
  • Food & Food Oils
  • Chemical
  • Cosmetic
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Wastewater Treatment
Overview

Due to the close-coupled design of the RID Self-Priming Flexible Impeller Pump, the rotation of the pump head into different porting configurations can be taken advantage of, a possible drawback with the GR series.

The RID MAXI DOUBLE 2Q doubles the flow capability of the RID MAXI 80, whereas the RID MAXI DOUBLE 2H doubles the head capability.

Units can be supplied with or without baseplates, trolley mounted and with or without control panels and wired Dry Run Protection. All models are 3 Phase. Manual or Spring Loaded By-Passes are also available on request.

Voltages: 230 & 400V (3 Phase)

Speeds: 235, 300, 350, 470, 600 & 700 rpm single & dual speed (235-470, 300-600 & 350-700 rpm)

Counter Connections: All pumps are supplied with Garolla Fittings as standard however a wide range of connection & counter connection types are available upon request.

Features & Benefits
  • Design: Close-coupled design to a geared motor makes it ideal for medium to high-viscosity or shear-sensitive fluids. Additionally, rotation of the pump head into different porting configurations is possible owing to the close-coupled design
  • Performance: RID MAXI DOUBLE models double the flow and pressure capabilities for increased performance parameters
  • Configuration Options: Available with or without baseplates, trolley-mounted, with or without control panels. Pump heads are also available in Stainless Steel AISI 316 or 304 materials, with options for different connections and orientations available
  • Mechanical Seals: Ceramic/Graphite/NBR as standard, with Tungsten Carbide/Tungsten Carbide/Viton & SiC/SiC/EPDM options available on request
  • Flexibility: Various connection types and sizes are available, as well as manual and spring-loaded bypasses available on request
