We were contacted by a UK start-up company that had developed an innovative idea to use green waste to create sustainable faux leather.

After outlining their functional, application and system requirements, we were able to design and provide the customer with a complete turnkey solution – a mobile, flexible impeller pump skid system with custom pipework and valving layout.

The mobile solution perfectly fit their requirements, providing the versatility and mobility that they required in their facility.

Requirements of the skid-system

The client was searching for a pumping system that catered to their needs. They needed a system that not only circulated the media but ensured even mixing and dispensing to moulds in the production line. It also needed to:

  • Self-prime up to several meters.
  • Withstand and maintain a temperature of 90o.
  • Transportable system for ease of use and mobility.
  • Have control measures so the client can measure the flow rate and change it if needed.
  • Ability to take samples via a hygienic sample point.

Solution & Support Offered

We provided our client with the solution shown below. This incorporates a trolley with an integrated drip tray, flow meter, flow totaliser, sample point, sight glass, suction strainer & flexible impeller pump with forced ventilation.

The overall Dimensions of the Flexible Impeller Trolley-mounted skid system were: 1250 x 760 x 950 mm (L x W x H)

Due to the temperature involved, the speed range required and for the longevity of the system, the pump was equipped with forced ventilation, a VMQ Silicon impeller, as well as a dry-run temperature switch which is wired to the inverter’s emergency stop/trip system to stop the pump when tripped.

The pump was equipped with a SiC / SiC / EPDM single mechanical seal to combat the solids in suspension and the temperature range of the fluid. The pump was also equipped with an automatic bypass, which allows the pump to run even if all connections are blanked, by allowing the fluid to flow around the pump head.

To allow our client to take samples of the material that is being pumped, we included a hygienic sample point. All the pipework and main components are hygienic for minimal contamination between batches of the media, to ensure a reliable product.

Full in-house testing and calibration were conducted before shipment to ensure functionality before shipment and our technical team went to the site once installed to ensure that the pump was installed correctly.
