Overview, Available Executions & Range:

The KFT range of Self-Priming Centrifugal Pumps is specially designed to operate under the most difficult and arduous conditions in Marine, Offshore and General Industry where high pressures, efficiencies and reliability are required from a self-priming centrifugal pump or low NPSHa (Net Positive Suction Head available) conditions are present.

Diesel driven packages are also available with Silence Packs, Acoustic Enclosures & on-board tanks. These units can be used for a variety of applications on and off shore, firefighting and dewatering being the most common. Marine Class approval is available on request.

Testing Facility:

With a state-of-the-art, custom-built testing facility, most products are able to be tested in-house. The testing facility has been approved by Bureau Veritas, Lloyds and SGS for Grade-1 and Grade-2 testing, in accordance with the ISO 9906 - Hydraulic performance acceptance test. The testing facility is equipped for manual and automated test protocols for pump capacities up to 500 m³/h and pressures up to 25 bar.

These features also allow for calibrated measurement of flow, pressure, noise and vibration levels. Testing above 500 m³/h is also possible, but this will be done by a 3rd part.

Testing can be done in accordance to Bureau Veritas, DNV, Lloyd's Register, and API.

Self-Priming Operation & Principle

KFT operating principle

Conventional centrifugal pumps always require fully priming at installation and all airs and gases should be expelled from the suction pipework and impeller area within the pump volute. This is typically not a problem when there is a positive suction pressure or the pump is adequately fed on the suction side.

However, when the suction pressure is negative (Suction Lift conditions) or there is a low NPSHa within the system, air must be evacuated to ensure pump priming and avoid risks of cavitation. The KFT range of Self-Priming Centrifugal Pumps is designed specifically to overcome these conditions by virtue of their integral air separation and priming chambers.

During the start-up of the pump, the priming chamber acts as an intake whilst the air separation chamber discharges the fluid and mixed air & gases. These are passed through the discharge line whilst the liquid recirculates into the lower section of the volute.

The pump is fully primed once the process fluid covers the eye of the impeller and all the air is removed. The pump then functions like a standard centrifugal pump.

The casing design was optimised to ensure a suitable volume of process fluid remains entrapped in the volute for renewed priming at a later stage. Even if the process fluid is allowed to syphon back to source.

For models 80-50 upwards it is recommended to install a Non Return Valve on the suction pipework to avoid syphoning. On all models it is recommended to install a venting valve on the discharge pipework, as shown.
