WHAT IS CTH HYGIENIC CENTRIFUGAL PUMP FOR?

The CTH hygienic centrifugal pumps are suitable for a wide variety of applications within the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries at competitive pricing and quick lead times. The CTH Hygienic End Suction, Close Coupled, Single Stage Centrifugal Pumps feature either an Open (6 mm Solids Passage) or Semi-Open Impeller and are manufactured from Stainless steel AISI 316L, electro polished to Ra <0.8, to offer high mechanical and corrosion resistance for a plethora of hygienic applications at competitive pricing.

 

 

Design Features & Benefits

 

The pump has been innovatively designed with only 19 components which enable them to be maintained and troubleshot in a limited time frame. This results in very short downtimes and extremely low maintenance cost. In fact, in many cases once installed these pumps are maintenance free! The modular design enables the pumps to be supplied with a variety of different build options making it an incredibly robust and versatile pump suitable for a wide range of both applications and installations.

Furthermore, with casing and impeller in <0.8 Ra electro polished stainless steel AISI 316L, and possibilities for draining & also fitted with hygienic shroud & jacketing options means it meets the demands of clean ability and quality of high finish commanded within food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.

 

Typical Applications

The CTH Hygienic Centrifugal Pump Range is suitable for a wide variety of applications within the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. As they can be ATEX rated they can also be used for hazardous zones.

They are ideally suited for the transfer of various ingredients and products like edible oil, flavourings, alcohol, dairy products, and juice. With heating jackets, there are further possibilities like pumping margarine, paraffin and even chocolate. There are also many auxiliary applications such as the transfer of CIP liquids, detergents and water.

Rather than typically being used for tank to tank transfer applications, they can also, however, be used for pressure boosting, dispensing, loading and offloading, tank cleaning, batching & metering, when used in conjunction with some of our wide range of control accessories.

Sealing Options

Standard Single Mechanical Seals are provided with a range of face materials, Ceramic / Graphite / SiC and O-Rings are available in EPDM / FKM / FFKM or FEP or alternatively the seal can be provided with an OP-Ring (Square O-Ring). This increases the friction between the O-Ring and the back casing and therefore lowering the chances of the static parts of the seal from sticking together.

Flushed Mechanical SealsFlushed Mechanical Seals (API Plan 11)

It can be provided upon request and are particularly suited when abrasive or sticky particles are being pumped. This system recirculates a small amount of the pumped product from the discharge connection of the pump to the seal chamber to make sure the seal faces and chamber are kept lubricated and clean from the abrasive or sticky particulates. In addition, a self-cleaning filter is fitted to the discharge to collect any large particulates before they are flushed back to the seal and seal chamber. The Flushed Seal pipework and filter are fixed with gas fittings for easy disassembly during routine inspections and maintenance.

It can also be provided upon request and are ideally used when there is the potential for dry running or where there is a chance for the product to solidify or crystalize. An Oil Pot is connected to the seal chamber and continually lubricates seal during operation.  SAE grade 20 Oil is recommended however you must use a fluid compatible with the pumped medium and materials within the pump. As an alternative, the CTHs can be supplied with ports to facilitate an external quench system. This provides the added benefit of removing heat build-up from the seal face and doesn’t require changing of the lubricating fluid. The max pressure of the quench circuit is 0.5 bar and it is recommended to install a thermo-syphon circulation into the quench circuit.

Heating Jackets

The jacket is welded into the pump back casing and a heating or cooling medium is continuously circulated in the jacket.Heating Jackets can be fitted in order to provide greater protection for the mechanical seal in cases where there is a risk of solidification of the product being pumped. They can also be used when the temperature of the pumped product has to be maintained to a specific temperature, high or low.

The jacket has two ISO G ½” connections, other options are available upon request, such as flanged. Connection to the jacket is done by using flexible hoses to prevent any undue stress and strain on the heating jacket connectors.

The medium used need to be fully compatible with materials of the pump.

The maximum temperature for the heating medium is 60°C at a maximum pressure of 2 bar.

Electro-Polished, Stainless Steel AISI 316L, Hygienic Shrouds can easily be fitted to provide added protection for the motor during wash-downs and also providing an easier cleaning surface with increased resistance to bacterial build up.
