    Self-Priming Flexible Impeller Pumps

    Self-Priming Flexible Impeller Pumps, also known as flexible vane pumps, are a form of positive displacement pump. They move fluid from the suction port to the discharge port by trapping an amount of fluid between its impeller vanes and then forcing it round towards the outlet. Their design enables them to handle thin and viscous (up to 50’000 cPs) fluids as well as solids in suspension (up to 25 mm). They are capable of discharges pressures up to 4 bar and flow rates up to 1200 l/min & maximum fluid temperatures up to 120ºC. A wide range of voltages are also available: 12V, 24V, 110V, 230V, 400V Connections are available from ¾” to 3” in a variety of types to suit customer requirements [/tm_tab] [tm_tab title="OPERATING PRINCIPLE"] Operating Principles and Benefits The vanes of the impeller deform slightly when rotating inside the pump casing, moving the fluid from the inlet to the outlet at a steady, pulseless flow without pressure spikes. This principle combined with a gentle pumping action and a high self-priming capability, up to 6 m from dry, makes these units ideal for transfer, filling, dosing and filtration applications. Thanks to the intrinsic simplicity and versatility of their design Self-Priming Flexible Impeller Pumps have many features and benefits which make them ideally suited to a plethora of applications. Extremely good self-priming ability: They are capable of dry suction lifts up to 6 m from dry. Enabling the evacuation of sumps, tanks, drums & IBCs without the need for a non-return valve or manual priming on installation. Reversible operation: Can operate bi-directionally, which allows for the return of any excess fluid & emptying of pipes at the flip of a switch located on the terminal box of the motor. This is particularly useful when emptying tanks for cleaning purposes and refilling upon completion. Solids & Viscous Product Handling: Can handle soft and fragile particles in suspension as well as viscosities up to 50’000 cPs, at low operational speeds. The pump will pass the solids without causing any damage to them, air locking or emulsifying the product. This makes these pumps particularly suitable for shear sensitive products. Solids Passage Capability: Mini: 3 mm Midex: 5 mm Minor: 10 mm Major: 15 mm Maxi: 25 mm Pulse-free pumping action: Can be used for filling, dosing or filtration applications. The Midex and Minor ranges can be fitted with spring loaded by-passes and others fitted with manual by-passes to facilitate operation with nozzles or valves to protect against dead heading. Pump Head can be rotated into 5 positions: Enables installation into various pipework configurations. The motor can also be mounted above or below the pump head, thus enabling the customer to make the pump work for the system.     How do Tapflo CTM Centrifugal Pumps Work?

    CTM Magnetically Driven Centrifugal Pumps The CTM Centrifugal Pumps are Magnetical Driven End Suction, Close Coupled, Single Stage Centrifugal Pumps feature a Semi-Open or Closed Impeller and are manufactured from either Glass Fibre Reinforced Polypropylene or PVDF to offer high mechanical and corrosion resistance for a plethora of applications at competitive pricing.     Operating Principle of CTM Centrifugal Pumps
    CTM operating principle In order to start the pump, the casing has to be filled with liquid before start-up and have a positive suction head to operate efficiently. The NPSHr (Net Positive Suction Head Required) can be provided during the selection and assessment of the pump for your intended application. Upon start-up, the liquid enters the pump casing axially onto the eye of the impeller. The rotating impeller generates a centrifugal force accelerating the liquid through the pump casing and into the discharge piping. As the fluid is accelerated by the impeller and thrown towards the discharge outlet a low pressure point is generated at the eye of the impeller effectively drawing fluid from the suction side to the pump and continuing the pumping cycle. Unlike standard close coupled centrifugal pumps where the impeller is connected to the motor shaft directly, in a CTM Magnetically Driven Centrifugal Pump, the torque from the motor shaft is transmitted to the impeller by means of a magnetic coupling. The drive magnet is fixed on the motor shaft. The magnets installed in the drive magnet and in the impeller/magnet assemblies have different polarities. When the pump is at rest, the magnets of both parts are aligned. When the motor is started and the drive magnet starts to rotate, the magnets create an attraction and repulsion force thus forcing the impeller to rotate. If the impeller gets blocked or the pumped liquid will be too dense and too much torque will be generated on the motor shaft, the magnet will de-couple and no damaged will be done to the motor. When the pump will come to a stop, the magnets will re-couple. Between both magnet assemblies there is an isolation shell that separates the liquid side from the motor side and from entering the atmosphere. [/tm_tab]   [tm_tab title="APPLICATIONS"]

    This is done by using a pump without valves, pistons, stators or rotating elements in the fluid. The Peristaltic Hose Pumps series are designed to make hose changes quick and easy with no technical knowledge required. We only work with high quality compounded rubbers, reinforced with 2 to 6 individual layers of braided polyamide and with an outer layer made to strict tolerances to ensure perfect compression. The characteristics of Tapflo hoses enable them to last approximately 30 % longer than other hoses on the market. They also fit the majority of other hose pumps.     Sealing Options
    Standard Single Mechanical Seals are provided with a range of face materials, Ceramic / Graphite / SiC and O-Rings are available in EPDM / FKM / FFKM or FEP or alternatively the seal can be provided with an OP-Ring (Square O-Ring). This increases the friction between the O-Ring and the back casing and therefore lowering the chances of the static parts of the seal from sticking together. CTS Sealing Options Lubricated & Externally Quenched Mechanical Seals can also be provided upon request and are ideally used when there is the potential for dry running or where there is a chance for the product to solidify or crystalize. An Oil Pot is connected to the seal chamber and continually lubricates seal during operation.  SAE grade 20 Oil is recommended however you must use a fluid compatible with the pumped medium and materials within the pump. As an alternative, the CTHs can be supplied with ports to facilitate an external quench system. This provides the added benefit of removing heat build-up from the seal face and doesn’t require changing of the lubricating fluid.     What do make CTV Vertical Immersion Centrifugal Pumps different?

    The CTV Vertical Immersion Centrifugal Pump is simple however very reliable in service. The pump has been specialised for the transfer and circulation of various fluids from containers, tanks and sumps. They are manufactured from PP, PVDF or Stainless steel AISI 316L. In many cases the CTV replaces a self-priming pump as it is installed vertically with the motor above the liquid surface. This means that the pump doesn’t need a mechanical seal that usually is a source for leakage problems. Furthermore, the pump is designed to be safe from dry running. The simple design without bearings or mechanical seals grants for a pump that is usually maintenance free. It is also insensitive of solids up to 6 mm in diameter (depending on the pump size).     The CTV units are fitted with a Safe Area IP55 Motors in Aluminium Casings as standard and are in line with all current Energy Efficiency Class legislation. Motor Powers vary from 0.55 kW up to 2.2 kW in 2 Pole 50 Hz and Single or 3 Phase. S1 Duty Class is standard. Tropicalised motors to IP55 or 56 are available as options Hygienic Motor shrouds and Rain / Top Hats are available to protect motors in wash down or external operating conditions. External cooling options for variable speed operation are also available upon request.

It is a great solution when there is a need to empty a tank or sump from a lower level than the immersion depth of the pump. A 500 mm and 1000 mm extension pipe is available as a standard. Customised lengths are available on request. It is recommended to fasten long suction pipes to the wall of the tank. The supports need to be flexible and should not cause any vibration to the piping.
     A suction strainer is also a possible option where the liquid is dirty or contains solids larger than the capacity of the pump (up to 6 mm ø). These are available in PP, PVDF and SS 316L
      As standard the pump cover is cut with a socket, however in applications where the liquid is particularly viscous a left handed thread on the cover can be provided to avoid unscrewing of the pump cover during operation.

    PE Pumps
    Tapflo have standardised to Solid Block Polyethylene (PE HD) instead of moulded PP (Polypropylene), which is commonly used amongst other Air Operated Diaphragm Pump manufacturers on the market. There are couple of reasons for this: PE has a superior wear resistance (6 to 7 times better) to PP. This fact makes the pump perfectly suitable for handling abrasive slurries and preferred to Stainless Steel in these applications. Tapflo also uses different grades of PE depending on the part to ensure the best mechanical and abrasion resistance. For instance, valve seats and ball stoppers, which are the most vulnerable parts to wear, Tapflo use UHMW PE1000 which has even greater resistance to abrasion and mechanical stress. PE is also resistant to most kinds of aggressive chemicals such as concentrated acids and alkalis. Making it an ideal material for chemical handling as well. PP is instead used as material for the centre blocks, again machined from solid block instead of moulded.

    Tapflo offers virgin solid block PTFE as an alternative to PE as it offers superior chemical and temperature resistance.     Operating Principle
    In order for standard centrifugal pumps to, the casing has to be filled with liquid before start-up and have a positive suction head to operate efficiently. The NPSHr (Net Positive Suction Head Required) can be provided during the selection and assessment of the pump for your intended application. Upon start-up, the liquid enters the centrifugal pump casing axially onto the eye of the impeller. The rotating impeller generates a centrifugal force accelerating the liquid through the pump casing and into the discharge piping. As the fluid is accelerated by the impeller and thrown towards the discharge outlet a low-pressure point is generated at the eye of the impeller effectively drawing fluid from the suction side to the pump and continuing the pumping cycle. S1 Duty Class is standard however Motors rated for intermittent duty also be supplied. 2 & 4 Pole are supplied as standard options however 6 Pole (1000 rpm) & 8 Pole (800 rpm) as well as 2 Speed can be provided upon request as well. Cast Iron Casings can be supplied upon request to provide a more robust casing material for external applications or particularly arduous environments. Wash-down duty motors can also be supplied upon request when pumping equipment needs to be cleaned down with jet wash equipment.     Drain Plugs Drain Plugs It can also be fitted to the bottom of the pump casing, 3/8” BSP, to facilitate easy casing draining.
    Retrofittable Self Priming Chamber Retrofitable Pump Thanks to Tapflo’s innovative and modular design and If you have an existing CTI pump, you have the option to retro-fit it with a new pump volute to turn it into a CTS Self Priming pump. By simply removing the front casing and fitting a CTS casing you can turn your non self-priming pump into a self-primer capable of up to 4.5 m suction lift!

The Reinforced Open Impeller is recommended when pumping viscous liquids or ones containing solids in suspension.     Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps are mostly made up of 2 Liquid Chambers, 2 Air Chambers and 2 Diaphragms, with a Flexible Diaphragm separating both the Liquid and Air Chambers. Compressed Air is supplied to the air valve which distributes the air from the Centre Block, where 2 ports direct the flow of air to the right and left Air Chambers. The same air pressure from the air supply is directly applied to the back side of one of the Diaphragms, forcing it forward and therefore the medium out of the Fluid Chamber, lifting the Ball Check Valve and out of the Discharge Port (2), with equal pressure to that which is supplied. The Diaphragms are connected by a shaft which is screwed into the centre of each. As one of them is forced forward the other is pulled towards the Centre Block, causing a vacuum effect on the suction side. The medium is subsequently drawn through the Suction Port (1) and into Fluid Chamber. The Air Valve automatically transfers the air pressure to the opposing side at the end of each stroke, reversing the action. Hence the term 1:1 reciprocating pump. The Ball Check Valves alternately Open & Close in unison with the reciprocating action of the diaphragms. Enabling filling of the Fluid Chambers and preventing back flow through the pump.     This is done by using a pump without valves, pistons, stators or rotating elements in the fluid. The Peristaltic Hose Pumps series are designed to make hose changes quick and easy with no technical knowledge required. We only work with high quality compounded rubbers, reinforced with 2 to 6 individual layers of braided polyamide and with an outer layer made to strict tolerances to ensure perfect compression. The characteristics of Tapflo hoses enable them to last approximately 30 % longer than other hoses on the market. They also fit the majority of other hose pumps.     • A pulsating flow is generated by the pushing action of shoes or rollers on the wall of a rubber hose.
    • The two shoes or rollers are mounted at 180° on a rotating wheel & compress successively a reinforced rubber hose that contains a fluid to be pumped.
    • The compression of the hose by the rotating shoes creates continuous suction at the inlet of the pump and pushes the fluid to the outlet of the pump.
    • Sealing under the shoe is performed by the compression of a local area of the hose.
    • Frictions between shoes and hose are reduced by using a lubricant which also acts as a coolant.
    • The pumped fluid is in contact only with the interior of the rubber hose, thus permitting the pumping of a wide variety of reactive fluids.
    • No particles are usually trapped between the walls of the inner hose, when the shoe is squeezing the hose, a small wave is created in front of the shoe rejecting the particles.

    Self-Priming Flexible Impeller Pumps, also known as flexible vane pumps, are a form of positive displacement pump. They move fluid from the suction port to the discharge port by trapping an amount of fluid between its impeller vanes and then forcing it round towards the outlet. Their design enables them to handle thin and viscous (up to 50’000 cPs) fluids as well as solids in suspension (up to 25 mm). They are capable of discharges pressures up to 4 bar and flow rates up to 1200 l/min & maximum fluid temperatures up to 120ºC.
